Assembly for Wales

This week, we visited the Welsh Assembly which is a devolved assembly with power to make legislation in Wales, located in Cardiff Bay. The Assembly comprises 60 members, who are known as Assembly Members. Also, the debating chamber in Cardiff Bay，was designed by the Richard Rogers Partnership and built by Taylor Woodrow, with environmental and MEP design by BDSP Partnership. It uses traditional Welsh materials such as slate and Welsh Oak in its construction, and the design is based around the concepts of openness and transparency.



The Welsh Assembly building has won praise for its construction on “green” principles using energy-saving and recycling features. Its renewable energy systems aim to reduce running costs by up to half. Just like Lord Rogers said energy conservation was a central principle in the design of his building as well as creating a space. Other features include using the ground as a heat source and the use of wood chips or pellets for the boiler. Rainwater is also collected via the steel columns supporting the roof to supply the toilets and to wash the windows. We all agree that the use of rainwater flushing toilets is a very interesting thing and we go to the toilet.
